Dear Parents and Carers
I would like to introduce myself as the Inclusion Manager and Special Educational Needs Coordinator for Marvels Lane Primary School. I am usually known as the SENCo.
Children are generally described as having ‘Special Educational Needs’ if they have a barrier to their learning which means that they need provision which could be additional to, or otherwise different from children of their age at our school.
This can range from extra support with an adult or small group interventions, to specialised inclusion equipment and personalised targets. There are different stages and categories of Special Educational Needs which are all detailed in our SEN Policy in the policies section of our website.
My role as SENCO includes
• overseeing the day-to-day operation of the school’s SEN policy (available on our website)
• looking after our provision for children with SEN
• working with our teachers and support staff
• keeping the official records of all children with SEN
• communicating with the parents of our children with SEN
• working with other agencies: such as speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, occupational therapists etc.
The class teacher responsible for the pupil will remain responsible for working with the child on a daily basis and, where necessary, for planning and delivering an individualised programme which I oversee.
Whilst the first point of contact for any query concerning a pupil will nearly always be their class teacher, I am always available to help in any way I can. If you have any concerns about your child, you can ring or email our office and we will set up an appointment or you can usually find me in the playground at the beginning and end of the day.
